Film is very valuable and contains details recorded over many years. Each frame of 35mm film can contain upwards of 35Mb of information. Photographers are now rediscovering and exploring valuable images that were taken many years ago and scanning them to extremely high resolutions.
The modern scanner will record every dust spot and hair faithfully - some use in-built solutions such as Digital ICE and FARE to clean up the scans and remove the images of the dust and hairs - but these can take time to run their course and could delete or soften items that you might want.
Not every image requires such a detailed scan - some only require may only require to be cleaned and then scanned.
By using the BOOFLET you can clean the filmstrip quickly - remembering that unlike ICE and FARE the BOOFLET cleans the film BEFORE it goes into the scanner! This means that fewer particles of dust are able to go into the scanning device in the first place!
- The BOOFLET is the perfect device to collect all the hairs and dust from your originals - before you print and scan - and enables you to safely dispose of the contamination away from the area in which you work.
- The BOOFLET concept simply allows two specially formulated rollers to gently roll over the film surface and pick up the dust and dirt.
- These two rollers collect all the debris onto their surfaces from a length of film, then an 'anti-static brush' device passes in the air behind the rollers, and ‘wicks’ away any static charge that may be present which could attract dust again in the future.
- The rollers 'roll' along the film unlike 'anti-static brushes' which 'drag' horizontally across the film.
- The unit is easily capable of cleaning all films up to 120/220 roll film.
- The BOOFLET can also be used to clean home movie films when being rewound.
- Canned air jet - suffers from the 'boundary layer effect' where the air jet does not act on 'small' particles on the surface of the film. The airflow is simply not strong enough for some small particles and flows over them.
- Anti Static Brush Units - transport the dust away but it is still present to offend again because it has been knocked off onto the work area or is (worse still) resident in the fibres of the brush and rubbed over the film again!
- The Booflet can also be used to clean CD's and DVD's before placing them into your drive!
